We opened August 19, 2010. We wanted to bring yarn back to Dupont Circle and provide a friendly, warm and helpful environment for knitters and crocheters.

2019: Duck Duck Wool

Duck Duck Wool chases whimsy and color, skein by skein, as a small indie-dyer operation located in Northern Virginia. All yarns are dyed by hand, in small quantities, by the owner and creator, Sandra Miracle. Most colorways are inspired by simple things that unlock a favorite memory. Once Sandra has a color in mind, she can't help but chase it. And it is her sincerest hope that the colors captured might call to others, too.

What kinds of things do you carry?

Yarn (of course), from the machine-washable workhorses to the silky luxury fibers. Plus, we carry spinning fiber, plus needles, hooks and spindles. We've got project bags and notions, and even buttons! Everything is listed (and updated frequently) on the "Products" tab of our webpage! We have classes, too, and those can be found on the "Classes" tab.

How long have you been in business, and what inspired you to open your business?

The store's second birthday was February 1 this year - Red Fox Yarns is just over two years old! The NoVa area has had several yarn shops close as the owners retired in the last few years (including one in the space where Red Fox Yarns is now). I'd always wanted to have a needlework store of my own, and everything fell into place at the right time for it to happen!

What's your favorite thing about having your business?

Oh my goodness - I get to play with yarn all day! And talk about yarn! If it wasn't for the paperwork involved, it wouldn't feel like work at all!

2019: ColorStorms (new vendor!)

Whether indigo, madder, or cochineal, I've learned how to manipulate these natural dyes to make a huge variety of shades and hues, even on the same hank of yarn! Depending on the technique, I bring an exciting variety and intensity to my colors in fingering yarn, worsted weight, and fiber.
