2015: Cavey Family Sheep and Wool Co.

My husband and i have raised Montadale Sheep for 39 years.  Montadales are a dual purpose breed with medium wool and a micron distribution of 25-31. Staple length is approximately 5". The wool is white. The wool is excellent for knitting, crocheting, and felting. We shear once per year and I send about 100 pounds of skirted, hand picked wool to Green Mountain Spinnery for processing into a worsted wt., double twist yarn.  Once the yarn is returned, I hand dye it. The skeins which contain 240 yards and are sold for $18 each. I love the whole process. It is very rewarding to raise your own sheep and to be a wool producer. it is a miracle fiber. None other like it!!
